The former agricultural plot on the edge of the historic settlement of Tagelswangen is being developed into a self-sufficient community housing with flexible and adaptable apartments for different lifestyles. Both the protected farmhouse and the complementary new building combine maisonettes and single-story apartments, translating the specific qualities of the respective structure and location into high-quality living space.
In terms of volumetric conception, the gentle slope marks the transition from the villages historic core to the extensive suburban fabric of the past fifty years. A new residential building with terraces in two directions and a hybrid construction forms a new ensemble with the historic multi-purpose farmhouse. Both houses stand with one corner close to Alter Kirchweg and are aligned in such a way that they reflect the zone-specific logic of both sides.
The new building largely dispenses with basements, offers parking solutions that can be interpreted as garden sheds in line with the ongoing mobility transition, and, thanks to compact, neutral-use individual rooms, creates a spacious central living hall. The farmhouse extends the historic partitioned construction by two new layers and provides direct access to all apartments from the central communal courtyard.
