Historically, the now peaceful Vordergasse was one of the most important roads in the canton of Zurich. It connected the city of Zurich with Effretikon. The forecourt of the farmhouse was a bustling hub of activity, which may still be used intensively today. To the south of the house, there are no other buildings, only extensive agricultural land. The site layout forms the basis for the environmental and development concept of this study. In the future, the forecourt can accommodate a variety of uses for the entire settlement. Parking, recreation, cargo handling, and the creation of a sense of place all find their place in an integrated form. This frees up spaces next to the farmhouse, in the courtyard, and around the new building that offer exceptional recreational qualities and make the settlement attractive in the long term. The placement of the new building volume along Waldgässli clarifies the evolution of urban fabric. In terms of its volume and typology, the complementary new built structure is not another farmhouse, but rather resembles agricultural infrastructure buildings or outbuildings. Its placement zones the outdoor spaces important to the site, mediates between the dense layout and the privacy of all the buildings surrounding the courtyard, and allows for direct access without underground parking.
