The project proposal for the conversion of the barn consistently focuses the scope of intervention on the area with the least existing structure. By reinstating the ceiling with the most structural damage at a new height, new spatial connections are created between the main room and the historic extension. The base is made available to the building and site community and interpreted as an unheated entry hall. A new, transversal cascade staircase provides central access to all three individual apartments and makes the two side arbors accessible as a shared circulation space, or as balcony and filter to the street. While the two large maisonettes are organized around the expressive, historic structure and elevate it to a spatial focal point, the third apartment, located in the annex, faces the lakeview and the garden. The relationship between the existing structure, long-term retrofitting, and medium- or short-term interventions and installations shapes the spatial character.
