39 Maisonette in Basel Built

In a residential building designed by Hans Zwimpfer (1973), a small maisonette apartment was prototypically refurbished and converted. The qualities inherent in the heavily prefabricated building, namely the great depth of the rooms and the clear partition structure, are made visible and tangible by the conversion. The façade has been gently renovated without changing the perforated windows. All coverings such as carpets and wallpaper were removed, exposing the previously concealed raw surfaces for use. The interior walls on the living floor were removed and the space is now divided only by a membrane-like, zoning panel. This brings together the kitchen, light installation, entrance area, a floor-to-ceiling mirror, and the guest toilet, giving the open space a center.
