Given its architecturally sensitive location between large-scale public buildings and the densely populated, green residential area, the Klosterbrühl housing development serves as a bridge and a source of identity. With its varied access routes and high-quality outdoor spaces, the site of the founding settlement is a defining place not only for the cooperative members but for all of Wettingen, a place that has shaped the community for generations. In addition to the sequence of four inner garden courtyards, the new, distinctive building volumes also incorporate semi-public gathering courtyards thanks to their playful relationship to the boundaries. This fundamental connecting idea is consistently carried through to the access routes (all stairwells are accessible from both sides), the typological development of the buildings (all apartments have a connection to the street and the courtyard), and the design of the facades and balconies (the buildings always face the courtyards and each other with open front sides). In this way, the development strikes a balance between doubling the utilization and preserving the qualities that define the neighborhood.
