Haus in Zollikon
Built
The terraced houses built by Hermann Dietz for the Allmend cooperative in 1925 were privatised early on in their almost 100-year history and have since been sold several times. It was therefore all the more astonishing to find a structurally and spatially almost unchanged house in the middle of the green estate. The remodelling balances sensitivity in dealing with the building fabric and radicalism in the concentration of interventions. The surprisingly complex, central spatial sculpture on the ground floor supports the wooden ceilings, bears the loads of the upper floors, contains the fireplace, wood store and chimney, divides the room zones and characterises the character of the entire floor with its materiality and presence. All other components are light, ephemeral and utilise existing materials for local reuse wherever possible.
